Folks, it is pronounced Kambul; Doug says About: Question The proper pronunciation of Campbell Most of us "Campbells" around these parts would prefer to hear the "b" sound at least, mumbled; but not the "p." Campbell is one of those names that is seldom spelled correctly. By the way, Ed, is Waggener pronounced as two syllables or three? And why do you need both those "g." Thanks, s/Doug Kambul Thanks. I'll pronounce it "Kambul" throughout my next 170 years. As for your other question, We - the Eds - pronounce Waggener with two syllables. I'm not real sure how all the Ralph Roys say it, or the Dans. We Waggeners have a very few - but a majority, I think, who make three syllables out of the family name. The more pretentious come down hard on the second syllable. But then, really good panting preachers can get three syllables out of "gee-uh-sus," and the truly great ones can get four - the equivalent of super Maria Callas operatic trills. The second g is an adornment, like the judicial center rotunda, serving very little purpose other than making a stab at improving the aesthetics, I guess. -EW This story was posted on 2010-02-14 08:06:54
