Poetry by Robert Stone: Infatuation - a sonnet

infatuation

a sonnet by Robert Stone
Time was when love for me was all unknown
and I would jest that such did not exist
but then one day a day that seemed a clone
of other days there came an unseen twist.

My eye was restless waiting for a sight,
my ear was keen to hear the faintest sound,
my heart was fluttering unsure what might
be right or wrong and so in doubt fast bound.

These feelings for another then I thought
were love for only these had seized my heart
but year by year I still am slowly taught
to label false and seek the truthful part.

Infatuation is a ghost that fades
but will not disappear into the shades.

- Robert Stone, 7 February 2010
