Firemen battle 1099 Campbellsville RD Fire for 2.5 hours

The Columbia - Adair Co Fire Department responded to a call of a structure fire at 1099 Campbellsville RD, Columbia, KY, at 5:03pmCT, Thursday, January 21, 2009.

The property owned by Barbara Franklin and Annabelle Pyles and occupied by Gabby's Treasures, owned by Crystal Cobb, was heavily involved in fire upon arrival of first unit.



Assistance from Breeding Fire Department was requested to the scene and Knifley Fire Department was requested to be on "stand by" until the initial fire was knocked down.

The building was mainly steel construction with a wood frame interior in the front half of the structure. There was significant damage to the contents of the structure, but the building remains standing.

Thirty firefighters were on the scene for two hours and fifteen minutes.

Several units of the Adair County Fire Department were on the scene at 1099 Campbellsville RD, Columbia, KY, fighting a fire reported at 5:03pmCT this evening, Thursday, January 21, 2010. Traffic has been snarled and firemen had brought in Ladder 1 at 5:09pmCT. The firefighters were working under extremely difficult conditions in cold, driving rain, punctuated by lightning. The building is located just south of the Gate Station on Campbellsville RD at Grant Lane. More details will be posted when received from the Fire Department.

Ladder one in action fighting Columbia, KY fire

A spectacular fire which took 30 firemen 2.5 hours to fully extinguish also needed Columbia-Adair County Fire Department's Ladder 1 truck to get above the one story structure and spray water down on the roof. This scene is from the north side of the building, next to a convenience store on Campbellsville RD. In addition to the Adair County Sheriff's Department and Columbia City Police, on hand for traffic control, the Breeding Fire Department was called for assistance, and Knifley Fire Department was alerted to be on standby.

Ladder One launched from neighboring property

Ladder One was launched from the convenience store parking lot just north of 1099 Campbellsville RD, Columbia, KY, to fight the fire from over the rooftop of the building owned by Barbara Franklin and Annabelle Pyles, which housed Gabby's Treasures.
