Happy birthday to Mr. Hinman, and a superb idea for Columbia Mr. Hinman's story about Ice Cream is inspiration for an Adair County International Freeze Off ice cream celebration About: Chuck Hinman IJMA 317:Ice Cream, Ice Cream By Billy Joe Fudge To Mr. Chuck Hinman via ColumbiaMagazine.com: Happy Birthday, my friend. Although I have never met you, I believe I could pick you out of a crowd, and this story, as do all of your stories, evokes many memories of my childhood in the late 50's and early 60's. We humans are really special creatures in that we can remember both the pains and the joys of the past, and although we remember the pains and the life lessons we learned from those painful experiences we can never once again be pained by them. However, the joys of the past have a special effect upon us every time we remember by bringing a smile to our faces and warmness to our hearts. I would like to suggest to Mayor Bell, Judge Melton, and Sue Stivers that they come together in a show of unity by establishing and planning for the first annual Columbia/Adair County International Homemade Ice Cream Freeze Off. Let us, during these current "hard times" give our children, grandchildren, and all of us something to cherish about the Summer of '010'. Yea, I know there are a couple of ice cream festivals in Kentucky already, but they are local festivals; this would be "An International Freeze Off Event". How about someone copyrighting that as our slogan as soon as commitments are made? I can see it now, the square filled with creators of creamy confections and consumers of those same creamy confections and we can all present our case for whether the best ice cream is from the villages of Knifley or Breeding or Hardscratch or Clayridge, or Columbia, etc. A Freeze Off to keep our competitive juices flowing which will determine the best Adair County ice cream, the best Kentucky ice cream, the best out of state ice cream, and the best international ice cream. Let's invite the world; and Mr. Hinman, I would like to personally invite you so I can pick you out of the crowd. S/Billy Joe Fudge This story was posted on 2010-01-19 10:01:10
