Dream of Coming to Adair Co., KY
began Aug. 3, 1998 with first land purchase

Merl & Pat Wiggins, soon to be Adair County residents, write from 7203 miles from Columbia, KY, expressing recognition of The Adair County Way, though not calling it that, so well: Since 1998, Adair County and the town of Columbia have been through many ups and downs. I read daily of the many trials and successes the local citizens have gone through. Supporting or disagreeing over various issues with each other, the one thing that stands out is the openness in which issues can be discussed and debated. When the question is decided, the community bonds are not broken, but are strengthened. We meet new people every trip to Adair. Their response is the same; always a friendly greeting and an open armed welcome to the community.

From One Outsider to Another,

My wife and I purchased our first parcel of land in Adair County on August 3, 1998.

The date is special to us. We feel as though we are part of the local community, even in our absence. Allow me help with the math. That would amount to 11 Years, 7 months, and hopefully only a few days more of living a dream that is soon to be reality.

Since 1998, we would come into town once a year and enjoy precious hours of the smells, sounds and views of the surrounding country. Additionally, we would share our dreams with the new friends that we have made through our annual visits to central Kentucky. The people, culture, history and natural beauty of central Kentucky will leave a lifelong impression on anyone who visits the area.

Since 1998, Adair County and the town of Columbia have been through many ups and downs.

After I discovered the Columbia Magazine web site, like you, my wife and I have lived through the many articles and pictures that have been published therein. I was very pleased for the editor to remark that the comment that I sent in about the Travel Guide was one that they "especially Treasure" as shown below.
Travel Guide and Scenic Adair County is expanding feature
The Travel Guide with Scenic Adair County pictures now includes lots of comments about Adair County, 48 photos, and is growing.

One comment we especially treasure is this one: "I was very pleased to see and read the "Traveler's Guide". My wife and I purchased property near Columbia several years ago and plan on building there in the near future. Quite often friends ask us, why Adair County? This article gives us an easy answer, even though there is much more that could be added, especially about the people. Keep up the good work."

Thanks to all who have commented. We appreciate your critiques and all your suggestions.

The comment was posted in January of 2006. Boy, talk about defining "NEAR FUTURE"!We haven't moved to Adair County as of now, but we are also counting the days. We purchased a small house in Columbia to live in while building our retirement home and will be moving in during the first week of March, God willing.

Mark, the purpose of my writing, is to encourage you and others that have the same dream of coming to Adair County and to remind those who live there of the treasures that outsiders see in their community.

Look us up when you come to visit Adair again. Both my wife and I will be very proud to say Welcome to Kentucky with a hot cup of coffee and maybe a piece of pie.
