Old Coddger doesn't want gumment involved in paint schemes About: Leaders need good downtown paint scheme Commentary from Old Coddger Well there seems to be a lot of great ideas floating around in this new year. I have to agree with Mr. Norris about liking to see a very busy downtown, as I remember coming to town on Saturday, as a youngster, and doing all the shopping for a least a week. There was parking around the circle of the courthouse as well as in the four corners as it is now and you usually had to look for a place to park. Those were the good old days. As I agree with Mr Norris on this matter, I strongly disagree with his thoughts about the government getting involved with how these business owners decorated their property. I think it is time for the government stay out of our personal lives. This is from local, state and federal governments. We would be better off if we paid our Senators and Representatives to stay home and not pass any more laws; we can't enforce the ones we have. I am well aware that there are a lot of places that go so far as to tell you what color to paint your home, such as Savannah, GA. But this is Columbia and economics plays a big part as to what you can do. I really don't believe having our downtown buildings painted certain colors will make us Savannah, GA. -Old Coddger Old Coddger is the penname of a CM contributing commentator.
