Lee County, Floridian set to live in Adair Co. in 2.5 years

Mr. Waggener:

I want to thank you for the wonderful photos and articles from your magazine. My wife and I have decided to make Adair county our retirement destination. We purchased the "Old Moss sawmill" property two years ago from a wonderful man, Glen Thomas of Hart County Realty. We fell in love with the area the moment we set foot in Columbia. I have been living vicariously through your articles and photos. I have lived in Lee County, Florida, my entire life (except for two years on a Virginia tobacco farm and 3 years Army service.) I see that the snow and cold temps have jostled life in Adair as of late; but it looks breathtaking.

From your articles I can't wait to meet the citizens of Columbia and Adair. We have visited on three occasions and I must say that the trip has always been too short. My dream of retirement is to enjoy the farm life once again. After 25 years in law enforcement, my wife and I long for the simple country life we grew up with (she is an Arkansas Razorback.)

I have seen from the photos / articles that several residents have traveled to Lee County - Sanibel Island, specifically. I used to run a charter fishing service around there and have spent many hours coaxing Redfish and Snook out from under mangroves in Pine Island sound. Can't wait to get acquainted with some of your stripers and get that big buck deer. I am marking the days off the calendar. Only 2 and a half years to go. The only thing bad about Adair County is that we are not there enjoying it right now with you.

Mark R. Bess

Wonderful news. You are mighty welcome here, and the sooner, the better. -EW
