LWC Men's basketball controls paint, downs Marygrove 93-59 Eric McPherson, with 17, and Kalen Kimberland, with 14 lead Raider scoring. By Dan White, Asst. LWC Sports Information Director COLUMBIA, KY - Using a 52-34 scoring advantage in the paint, the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team muscled its way past Marygrove (MI) College 93-59 on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center. Junior Cornell Thomas had arguably the best game of his Blue Raider career with eight points, nine rebounds and four assists to boost Lindsey Wilson's inside presence. Senior Eric McPherson provided the offensive boost with 17 points, while freshman Kalen Kimberland backed him up with 14. The Mustangs were led by Marcus Hopkins with 23 points, while Franklin Murdock was a constant threat to Blue Raider shots with a game-high five blocks. Marygrove (5-13) kept its deficit in single digits up until the five-minute mark of the first half (28-19), but Lindsey Wilson (9-7) went on a 10-2 run to push its lead to 17 as the half came to a close. The second half belonged to the Blue Raiders as they outscored the Mustangs 50-32. Passing and defense were essential for the blowout win as neither team shot well from the field. Led by McPherson and Thomas with four each, Lindsey Wilson held the advantage in assists 18-2, while also outrebounding Marygrove 57-37. The Mustangs finished the game shooting just 35.4 percent, including a 16.7 percent (2-of-12) performance from three-point range. The Blue Raiders managed to shoot 45 percent from the field, but only 13.6 percent (3-of-22) from three. Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7pmCT on January 14 in the Mid-South Conference opener at University of Rio Grande (Ohio). This story was posted on 2010-01-10 06:39:18
