Magistrates OK final action for Rescue Squad property transfer The purchase of the old Adair County Rescue Squad building with 13,14 acres was approved this morning, with all five magistrates who were present, Wid Harris (2), Sammy Baker (3), Billy Dean Coffey (5), Joe Rogers (6), and Terry Hadley (7) voting to approve final actions for the transfer of the property. Two measures were approved in the meeting which was scheduled for 8:30amCT, this morning, Monday, December 28, 2009. The first was approval for Judge Executive Ann Melton to sign all necessary paperwork for the purchase of the Adair County Rescue Squad land. The second was permission for Judge Melton to sign the check for $150,000 for the land. There was a five minute delay in the 8:30amCT start of the meeting as the court waited to determine to whom the check would be made, but Assistant County Attorney Ray Hutchison advised the members to word the action to allow him to determine this matter. Three small changes were made in the transfer document. One was to change the new owners from "Adair Fiscal Court," to "the people of Adair County." A second one put wording into the document which would, should for some reason the Adair Search and Rescue Squad cease to exist, allow the county to transfer the land to another non-profit, public benefit entity. A third change noted that the county has no restrictions on the use of the 11.27 acres not deeded to the SAR. The County will take possession as soon as the check is delivered. The county's plans for now will be to use the extra acreage for storage of road department equipment. Besides Judge Melton, Mr. Hutchison, and the five magistrates, others present were CJE Administrative Assistant Lisa Lee, Adair County Treasurer Barry Corbin, Adair County Regional Jailer Wm. "Bug" Knight, and about one dozen Adair County SAR members, along with members of the media. Two magistrates, Danny Goodin (1), and Perry Reeder (4) were not present.
