(December 21, 2009) - According to the Adair County Sheriff's Department, Columbia Police Officer Brad Scholl was attempting to make a turn from Russell Road (KY 80 East) onto Greenhills Road, to turn back in order to stop a vehicle which had disregarded a stop sign.

Officer Scholl pulled into the path of a 2002 Pontiac Grand AM operated by Andrew Tupman, 29, Columbia, KY, who was headed west on Russell Road.

Tupman entered the eastbound lane but was unable to avoid the collision. Tupman's Pontiac struck the police cruiser, then ran off the roadway, coming to a final rest in a ditch, according to the sheriff's report.

Both drivers were transported to Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia for treatment.

Deputy Aaron Rainwater of the Adair County Sheriff's Office investigated.
