Wm. Grider: Are our children worth a few extra dollars?

'For me and my family,' he answers, 'I say YES!!!!'

By William Grider

I have lived in Adair County all my life and I am very proud to say so. We have some of the most caring and giving people anywhere. I see it first hand being a member of the Columbia/Adair Co. Vol. Fire Dept. If is such a blessing for me to see the people of Adair Co. open their hearts and wallets every year as we try to raise money for the WHAS Crusade for Children.

I got to again see how we, as a communty and extended community, pulled together and voted to win a spot in the fileds of dreams to help renovate our high/middle school baseball field.

Our community did it once again when the Band was raising money for their trip to the Macy's Parade. Again look at how we rally with the Relay for Life. These are the normal types of things our community does not the exception. We always seem to be able to put our differences aside and come together and do what many think can't be done.

I feel that if the people of our community truly know how badly we need this new school and how benefical it is to build it now, that we will pull together and do it again.

I have read and heard a lot reasons to and not to vote for this tax. No one likes to pay taxes, especially not now with our economy. I have heard about how tax money is wasted (which if we feel the board does this we do have a choice. We vote them in we can vote them out).

How we paid for re-do's that wasn't ours to do. How bad of shape the High School is. How we came up with money to re-do the old High School. Renters rent will be raised. It goes on and on. We can come up with thousands of pro's and con's.

What does it really come do to? For me it comes down to what is best for the CHILDREN!!!

There are five things I ask each of you to do before you go out to vote.

  1. Think about how much money we will save by building it now.

  2. Think about how much more bonding capicity we will have if we pass this tax now. The band family should take advantage of this one. They could get their own practice field. If they don't deserve one who would!!!! They can't now because State says a new schoold has to come first; plus, there is no bonding available if the school issue was resolved.

  3. Think about how much better a new, energy efficent, current techology, learning environment would be for our young children.

  4. Most importantly, PRAY, not only to or not to vote for this tax, but for the people who will making decisions based on how the vote turns out.

  5. Lastly but also important. Look deep into our hearts as THIS WONDERFUL COMMUNITY always does and do what is best for the future of this community. THE FUTURE IS OUR CHILDREN. PLEASE DO WHAT IS BEST FOR THEM!!!
I have to ask:

Are our children worth a few extra dollars?
We think so when we give to the WHAS Crusade.

We did when we sent the band to New York.

We do when we give to Relay for Life for cancer research.

We will when we open presents Christmas morning.

Will you when you go to vote?

For me and my family, I say YES!!!!
