Darren Ballou leads Raider scoring in lost cause Freshman from Columbia, KY has double-double, 17 points and 13 rebounds, but Lambuth run in second half seals 87-75 fate By Dan White, Assistant LWC Sports Information Director McKenzie, TN - After leading 40-39 at halftime, Lambuth (TN.) University went on a 16-1 run at the start of the second half to put away the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team 87-75 on Friday at the Roy N. Baker Fieldhouse. Turnovers plagued the Blue Raiders the entire game as Lambuth's high-energy man-to-man defense forced them into 23 giveaways. That, plus 57.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line erased any chance of a Lindsey Wilson comeback. Lindsey Wilson (6-4) was led by freshman Darren Ballou with a career-high 17 points and 13 rebounds. Four other Blue Raiders reached double figures as senior Joshua Cherry poured in 13 points and his classmates Tim Parker and Jeff Vories both added 11. Senior Andrija Tintor finished with 10 points and three rebounds. Shaun Merriweather paced the Eagles with 22 points and five rebounds. Merriweather finished the game shooting 3-of-5 from three-point range and 7-of-8 on free throws.Lambuth (8-2) blitzed the Blue Raiders from the opening tip, showing why they are the No. 1 team in the NAIA in scoring offense (103.3) and steals per game (16.2). After Merriweather picked off a pass for a breakaway slam, the Eagles pulled ahead 25-14 and looked well on their way to an easy win. The Blue Raiders, however, climbed back with sharper passes and better ball handling to just be down a point at the break. At halftime Lindsey Wilson was shooting 56.5 percent from the field, while Lambuth shot 48.3 percent. The comeback effort was short lived though as Lambuth pulled ahead 55-41 just five minutes into the second half. The surge stymied Lindsey Wilson as it never seriously threatened to pull even with the Eagles the rest of the way. Lindsey Wilson outrebounded Lambuth 44-24, but the advantage was practically meaningless with the 23 turnovers and 57.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line. The Blue Raiders shot 46.8 percent from the field and 30.0 percent from behind the arc for the game. Lambuth shot 48.1 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from three. Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2pmCT on Saturday against Harris-Stowe State (MO) University in its final game of the Mcdonald's Classic, Lambuth College, McKenzie, TN.
