Tripp has studied with Midawo Gideon Foli Alorwoyie, a master drummer of the Ewe Tribe in Northern Ghana and with Yaya Diallo, the famous Mali drummer and the author of The Healing Drum. "While studying with Tripp, I have played rhythms from all over Africa and South America," Hamrick said. "I've studied rhythms from Ghana, Liberia, Congo, Suriname, Senegal, Brazil and Haiti." Hamrick primarily plays the djembe drum and the djun djun drum (like a bass drum). He plans to bring both types of drums and some bells to the workshops. Hamrick said that the workshops can be adjusted to the skills of the participants from beginner to expert. This story was posted on 2009-12-11 14:35:44
