another successful fall season

Ryan Montgomery and Jake Leibeck turn in key contributions in the impressive finish. Quiz Bowl team will compete this weekend in the State Beta Club Convention Quiz Bowl in Louisville, KY

Adair County can bragg about brains, too

The ACHS Academic Team finished with the 2nd best record against teams from the mid-Atlantic at this past weekends Wright State University quiz bowl invitational tournament in Dayton, Ohio.

The tournament featured a field of 32 of the best teams in the Kentucky-Ohio region and the only losses the team suffered on the weekend were to the number 2 ranked team in all of Ohio by one question and to one of the top 10 ranked teams in the nation.

Key wins included convincing victories over the number 2 finisher at last years National Academic Tournament and against Russell Independent from Ashland, Kentucky, who has finished no lower than 3rd in the State every year for the past decade, including multiple state championships.

In addition to being one of the top teams in the entire field, Luke Maupin, Adair County Junior, finished the tournament with the highest individual scoring average of any competitor in the entire tournament. Ryan Montgomery and Jake Leibeck also represented Adair County in the tournament with key contributions in the impressive finish.

At the tournament, the team made it three for three in earning its third qualification for nationals in three attempts, a rare feat for teams across the country who often compete year round in order to attempt to qualify just once for the prestigious field of teams from across the country.

The team added to its list of accomplishments by going undefeated in this years Green River Regional Academic League, earning yet another championship in both Varsity and JV divisions against teams from the central Kentucky and south central Kentucky region.

Adair has now earned qualification to nationals in quiz bowl for the fourth year in a row. Pair this with the school districts three straight years of qualifying for FPS International competition, Adair County is one of only three school districts in Kentucky academic competition history to accomplish this feat.

The teams final fall preparation comes this weekend as the quiz bowl team will compete at the State Beta Convention Quiz Bowl Tournament in Louisville, KY. Last year, the team earned 2nd Place and National Beta Convention qualification as one of two teams in Kentucky to advance.

The Future Problem Solving team competed on Thursday, December 3, in its first competition of the year. Results will be announced in January. The team has won the Green River Regional Academic League FPS competition the past 3 years, every year the league has been in existence.

Governors Cup competition begins on January 26 and 30 with the District level event.
