Obituary: James Marvin Grissom, 86, Knob Lick, KY

He was a deacon in the Hillside Baptist Church and was a retired farmer

James Marvin Grissom, age 86 of Knob Lick, KY, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow.

Funeral services will be held 1pmCT, Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East ST, Edmonton, KY, with burial in the Pedigo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4pmCT until 8pmCT, Friday, November 27, 2009, and after 9amCT, Saturday at the funeral home.

He was the son of the late Henry and Mattie Hurt Grissom Slinker. He was a retired farmer and deacon of the Hillside Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by the following:
  • Two children: Verlon (Joyce) Grissom of Knob Lick, KY; and Lavinia (Dennis) Toms of Cave City, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Jason (Sarah) Harper of Glasgow, KY; Jessica (Daniel) Gaskins of Edmonton, KY; Megan (Todd) Pennington of Glasgow, KY; and Melissa (Jay) Stephens of Knob Lick, KY

  • Three step grandchildren: Angie Coomer, Amanda Stout and Jeremy Coomer and families.

  • Six great grandchildren

  • One half brother and one half sister, Mitchell Slinker and Margie Martin both of Louisville, KY

  • One daughter in law: Ollie Nell Grissom of Glasgow, KY
He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Grissom, October 28, 2009; two sons, Shelby and Jay Grissom, and two sisters, Nell Slinker and Edna Neal.

Butler Funeral Home, 201 East ST, Edmonton, KY, is in charge of arrangements.
