Two precincts vote moist in Russell Co., KY special election

Two precincts vote Yes, Moist, but City of Jamestown votes No, to remain dry.

By Ed Waggener

Voters in the Jamestown and Lake Precincts voted to allow beer and wine sales in restaurants in the special election Tuesday, November 24, 2009.

The vote in the Lake Precinct was:
Yes, Moist, 242 votes
No, Dry 203 votes
The vote in the Jamestown Precinct was:
Yes, Moist, 227 votes
No, Dry, 215 votes
The vote in the City of Jamestown Precinct was:
Yes, Moist, 243 votes
No, Dry, 274 votes
A question remains on whether the portions of Lake Precinct and Jamestown Precinct which are also part of the City of Jamestown will be wet, since the precincts voted moist, or dry, since the City of Jamestown voted No.

A spokesperson in the office of Russell County Court Clerk Latisha Popplewell said her best guess is, "I don't know." And that seems to be the street consensus this morning.

It is expected that the question will be settled in court.
