CU Chorale, Handbells at First United UMC Dec. 1, 2009

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - The Campbellsville University Chorale under the direction of Dr. Tony Cunha, will perform at First United Methodist Church, 317 E. Main ST, Campbellsville, KY, Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at 8pmET/7pmCT. The performance is free and open to the public.

The Campbellsville University Handbell Choir, directed by Dr. David Hedrick, will also participate in the concert.



The Chorale performs a wide variety of literature in a broad spectrum of musical styles, including accompanied and a cappella pieces and both sacred and secular selections. The 48-member ensemble will perform works by Thomas Tallis, Felix Mendelssohn, David Dickau, Paul Basler, David Schowebel, Rene Clausen and others.

The Handbell Choir will perform traditional Christmas music, including a Christmas medley arranged by Hedrick and a special arrangement of "Ave Maria" by Bach-Gounod. The Handbell Choir is made up of 14 students from the surrounding area as well as out of state.

Cunha joined the faculty of Campbellsville University in January 2007. He is the coordinator of the church music program and associate dean of the School of Music. He teaches courses in church music and conducting at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Cunha is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Collegiate Choral Organization, the Baptist Church Music Conference and the Kentucky Baptist Men's Chorale, and is on the board of the Central Kentucky Arts Series.

Hedrick is in his fourth year on the School of Music faculty in music education and applied voice. He has worked with bell choirs in various churches throughout his 40-year career in church music. He is a published arranger and composer and is musical director of "Stephen Foster-The Musical," a summer outdoor musical located at My Old Kentucky Home State Park in Bardstown, KY. This is Hedrick's first year as director of the Handbell Choir at CU.
