Landscape by Laurel Artist Jan Sumac wins art show at London Dave Cazalet, Jr., wins first place portrait, with painting of his wife, Nancy Click on headline for full story, 2 photos Somerset Community College story Laurel County artist Jan Sumac won the "Best of Show" Award at the Cumberland Valley Art Show held at the Laurel County Public Library during the week of Nov. 8 through 14. Sumac's landscape painting also took home first place in the Landscape Category. Sumac won $100 from Cumberland Valley National Bank. David Cazalet of Pulaski County won first place in the Portrait category, while George Minnor of Laurel County took home second, Shelly L. Hubbard of Laurel County won third, and an honorable mention went to Travis Geoghegan of Laurel County. There were six categories open to amateur, adult artists: Animal, Contemporary, Drawing, Landscape, Portrait, and Still Life. There was also a category for student artists. First place in each category was awarded a $10 prize by CVNB, with a grand prize of $100 for "Best of Show." Cumberland Valley National Bank has been sponsoring the local art show for 28 years. This year, 28 artists submitted 50 pieces for the show. Sumac took first place in Landscape. Second place went to Larry Black of Laurel County. Third place went to Evelyn Pearl Anderson of Laurel County, and an honorable mention award went to Tom Dzugan of Whitley County. In the Animal category, first place was awarded to George Minor of Laurel County. Second place went to Jan Sumac. Third place went to Larry Black and an honorable mention was awarded to Mabel L. Taylor of Knox County. In the Contemporary judging, first place went to Evelyn Pearl Anderson, second to Tom Dzugan, and third to Mary Stuart of Laurel County. In the Still Life event, Mary Etta Combs of Jackson County took home first place. Second place went to Mary L. Stuart of Laurel County and third place went to Geraldine Scalf of Knox County. Taylor Ward of Laurel County won first place in the student contest, while Wheeler Painter of Laurel County took the second place award. The Cumberland Valley Art Show has been sponsored by Cumberland Valley National Bank for several years in partnership with the Laurel County Public Library.
