Anyone have knowledge of Beard Refuge near Coburg?

Among the many inquiries about Columbia and Adair County and the Day Trip opportunities using Columbia as the starting point, Sue Stivers fields most with her store of knowledge of the area or with a flick of her computer mouse to find the answer, but a question about the "Beard Refuge near Coburg, KY," has her stumped. John MacGregor of the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Department, # 1 Sportsman's Lane, Frankfort, KY, wrote her the following on Wednesday, November 18, 2009:
I am trying to assemble and map historical distribution data for Kentucky's amphibians and reptiles.

The zoological collections at the University of Kentucky included numerous salamanders and frogs that were captured at "Beard Refuge near Coburg" in the early 1950s by Dr. Roger W. Barbour and some of his students. Dr. Barbour passed away a number of years ago. I have been trying for some time to figure out where the Beard Refuge may have been located - I suspect that it may have been a piece of private land that was used by local scout groups in the 1950s as a camping area.

Could you possibly suggest anyone in the Adair County area who might remember this place, or might know where it was located?

Thank you very much.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, by contacting Sue Stivers directly at (270) 384-6020, or by sharing the information, which will be passed along, with readers of ColumbiaMagazine.com by using the Comments button with this article.
