Representatives from school districts served by GRREC, including Campbellsville Independent and Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, Metcalfe, Monroe, Green, and Taylor counties, may attend for $15 per person based on those districts' annual membership in the cooperative By Sharon Dodson, The Center for Rural Development The Center for Rural Development and Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC) are making it easier for first-time grant writers to find the solutions they need in an expert-led, four-hour Grant Writing 101 workshop to be held at 10amET/9amCT, Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at The Center for Rural Development, 2292 South Highway 27, Somerset, KY. The registration deadline for the December 1, 2009, session of "Grant Writing 101," the first of two grant-writing workshops planned for Southern and Eastern Kentucky, is Tuesday, November 24, 2009. The cost for the workshop is $75 per person, which includes instruction, materials, and lunch. Representatives from school districts served by GRREC which includes Campbellsville Independent and Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, Metcalfe, Monroe, Green, and Taylor counties, may attend for $15 per person based on those districts' annual membership in the cooperative. Johna Rodgers will lead the workshop Johna Rodgers, a grant writer for GRREC in Bowling Green, will lead the workshop and give non-grant writers the common-sense tips and tools they need for success. Rodgers has developed dozens of consortium proposals for small and large projects in the region. Grant Writing 101 is for grant-writing beginners Grant Writing 101 is an opportunity for grant-writing beginners to get up to speed on the proposal process from beginning to end. Participants will learn about program and proposal development through the lens of state, federal, foundation, and corporate funding sources; discuss where to find grant money and how to know what to write; and work through a sample project to connect a data-based need statement to the outcomes, objectives, budget, and evaluation. "Grant writing is an important skill set that requires both knowledge and skills to reap successful results," Jim Tackett, associate vice president for The Center, said. "This workshop will help arm participants with the essential tools needed to research and develop promising grant proposals for a given project."
