COLUMBIA, KY -After three impressive performances in open tournaments, the Lindsey Wilson College wrestling team opens its dual season with the first regular-season home match in school history at 7pm CT this evening, Tuesday, November 17, 2009, against Cumberland (TN) University.

Blue Raider coach Corey Ruff expects his team to continue to build on its early season success that has already seen five wrestlers qualify for the NAIA National Championships.

"We're excited to be hosting the first ever home dual," said Ruff. "We're looking forward to establishing ourselves as one of the premier wrestling schools in the nation. For us, tradition begins now."

Tradition got a head start for the Blue Raiders during three open competitions in October and November.

Lindsey Wilson finished second in it's first-ever competition at the University of the Cumberlands' (KY) Patriot Open on October 31, 2009. Freshman Brian Thompson (133 pounds) and sophomore Chip Condon (157 lbs.) both qualified for nationals finishing second and fourth, respectively.

Two Blue Raiders placed at the Eastern Michigan University Open on November 7 in Ypsilanti, MI. Freshman Kurt Wilbert qualified for nationals placing sixth in the 165-lbs. division, while newcomer Jacob Ilg placed sixth at 195 lbs.

Junior Keith Klink and freshman Jacob Shirley qualified for nationals at the King (TN) College Open on Nov. 15. Klink defeated a 2009 NAIA All-American and the eighth ranked 125-lbs. wrestler to take the open championship. Shirley wrapped up the open finishing fourth.

Cumberland comes to Columbia as the 14th ranked team in the preseason NAIA Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 Poll.

The Bulldog's feature the NAIA's fourth ranked heavyweight in junior Byron Stewart (285 lbs.) and fifth ranked junior Michael Davis at 141 lbs.

Cumberland is 0-1 in dual matches this season, falling to second ranked McKendree (IL) University, 28-16, on November 3, 2009.

Lindsey Wilson Wrestlers follows Tuesday's meet with another home dual at Biggers Sports Arena, 360 Spickard DR, Columbia, KY, at 7pmCT on December 1, 2009, against King (TN) College.
