Chafin hoped putting famous poems to music would be successful. He didn't expect it to result in a repeat performance. But on November 22, 2009, the Lindsey Wilson choral ensembles will reprise their recent performance of "The Poets Sing: Musical Settings of Distinguished Poems." The performance will be 7pmCT, Sunday, November 22, 2009, at Columbia Baptist Church, 201 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY. The concert is free and open to the public. "The Poets Sing" was performed November 2, 2009,m to a standing-room-only audience. "Because our first performance was so well-received and several members, we decided to present it again," said Chafin, who is Lindsey Wilson College associate professor of music and director of choral programs. "A number of people told us they were unable to attend our Nov. 2 performance, and many of the people who attended our first performance expressed interest in hearing it again. So we just decided to do it again." "The Poets Sing" includes 10 pieces of either well-known poetry or poems by well-known authors set to music. Pieces to be performed include "Hold Fast Your Dreams," by Louise Driscoll; "Things That Never Die," by Charles Dickens; and "Anyway," which is attributed to Mother Teresa and appears on an engraving on the home for children in Calcutta, India. Voice student Anna-Catherine Hook of Louisville, Ky., will sing Robert Frost's "Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening." The Lindsey Wilson Singers will perform the tone-poems "Who Knows Where the Wind Blows," "The Forest," "Lightning" and "The Storm Is Passing Over."
