Park Ranger Tyler Royse wants to start Friends of Green River Lake By Tyler Royse Article forwarded by Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce My name is Tyler Royse and I am a Park Ranger for the Corps of Engineers at Green River Lake. I am looking for your help to start a Friends of Green River Lake, non-profit organization. Because the Corps of Engineers is a federal entity, we cannot accept grants or cash donations for use in developing programs and providing events for the community. By having a non-profit organization, we would have access to funds which could be utilized to help build and expand what has already become a very large tourist attraction for our local area. Our mission is to promote a better understanding and appreciation of the natural history, resources and habitat of Green River Lake, as well as provide programs to benefit the public. As a part of this organization you would have the opportunity to work hand in hand with the Corps of Engineers to help Green River Lake give back to our local communities the way that it would like. Last year alone, Green River Lake brought in over 1,150,000 visitors that spent over 30.4 million dollars within 30 miles of Green River Lake. Over half of that money spent went right to Adair and Taylor counties. Green River also created over 270 jobs surrounding the lake. These are numbers that we don't want to lose, and with a non-profit Friends of Group we can increase these numbers every year. I am planning an informational meeting to talk more about what we would like to accomplish and what members would do to help get the wheels rolling on a great opportunity. If you feel like this is something that you would like to be a part of, please let me know. I look forward to working with the chamber community to help bring opportunities to our local area. Please feel free to contact me at tyler_royse@hotmail.com, or at (270) 634-4306. Thank You for Your Time, Tyler Royse Park Ranger, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers This story was posted on 2009-11-16 10:16:29
