Elections 2010: Candidate filing starts Wed., Nov. 4, 2009

Observers expect a bumper crop of candidates for the open offices in Adair County

Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 4, 2009, is the first day for candidates in the 2010 Elections to file for office. The deadline for filing for offices which are subject to the May18, 2010 primary, is 4pmCT, January 26, 2010.

All county offices and all city offices are open this year. School board members for District 1 and District 3 are on the ballot, as are candidates of the Soil Conservation District.



Also on the ballot are the offices of District Judge for Adair and Casey Counties, for State Representative for the 51st District, the 15th Senatorial District, for Adair, Casey, Russell, Pulaski Counties, Justice of the Supreme Court for KY District 3, comprised of 27 counties: Adair, Bell, Casey, Clay, Clinton, Cumberland, Estill, Garrard, Green, Jackson, Knox, Laurel, Lee, Leslie, Lincoln, Marion, McCreary, Metcalfe, Monroe, Nelson, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell, Taylor, Washington, Wayne, and Whitley counties.

The election will include the race for the U.S. Senate Seat now held by Senator Jim Bunning and for the First District U.S. Congressional Seat now held by Rep. Ed Whitfield. The district includes 32 of Kentucky's 120 counties, more than any other Kentucky U.S. Congressional District. They are Adair, Allen, Ballard, Butler, Caldwell, Calloway, Carlisle, Casey, Christian, Clinton, Crittenden, Cumberland, Fulton, Graves, Henderson, Hickman, Hopkins, Livingston, Logan, Lyon, Marshall, McCracken, McLean, Metcalfe, Monroe, Muhlenberg, Russell, Simpson, Todd, Trigg, Union, Webster. It extends from Monkey's Eyebrow, almost in Missouri, on the West to Mannsville in Taylor County on the east.

Candidates for city offices, including Mayor and City Council seats, may file as early as tomorrow, but the deadline for the offices and for the U.S. Soil Conservation District offices is August 10, 2010.

Candidates who are running as Independents for County Wide offices may file as early as November 4, 2009, but they, too have the later August 10, 2010 deadline.

Those running as independents must be registered as independents as of December 31, 2009, and they are also required to file a statement of candidacy form no later than April 1, 2010, at 4pm local time.

Office hours are 8am-4:30pm Mon-Fri. Candidates for Federal Office and offices crossing county offices file in the Office of Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson, 700 Capitol AveFrankfort, KY 40601.
