LWC Choral Ensembles deliver outstanding performance "The evening was a totally awesome experience for those who attended, and the only disappointing aspect of the performance was its brevity. It was so long coming and too soon finished." A review by Charles Miller Dr. Gerald Chafin has brought the Lindsey Wilson Choral Ensembles to a new high. This writer had the most enjoyable experience on Monday evening that could possibly have been had in Columbia. The location was The Columbia Baptist Church and the occasion was the fall recital which was expertly presented by the LWC Choral concert choir and the Lindsey Wilson Singers. The evening began with the singers entering the sanctuary while singing "Da Pacem Domine" (Give Us Peace O Lord, In Our Days) This number was performed a capella, and remained on perfect pitch and was sung in accurate Latin. The following piece, "Day By Day," was also wonderfully done and was accompanied on the flute by Nicole Moyer, and on the piano by Dr Robert Reynolds. The theme of the evening involved poetry from yesteryear by Charles Dickens, Louise Driscoll, and Mother Teresa, all set to music by current day music writers. he second half of the program was preceded by a solo presentation of "Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening" very nicely presented by Anna-Catherine Hook. Miss Hook exhibited a vocal range which is possessed by very few singers and was enjoyed by all listeners. One of the most unusual numbers left this writer, as well as the entire audience, with their mouths agape. One would have sworn that there was a thunder storm rumbling through the building and the Storm was followed by a piece entitled "Lightning." The evening was a totally awesome experience for those who attended, and the only disappointing aspect of the performance was its brevity. It was so long coming and too soon finished. Hats off to the singers, Dr. Chaffin, and Dr Reynolds. Keep the music flowing in Columbia. This story was posted on 2009-11-03 01:24:47
