Obituary: Tommy Lee Smothers, 80, Taylor Co., KY

Mr. Smothers was a well respected bulldozer operator. He was a member of the Bradfordsville Baptist Church. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he will be accorded full military honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Tommy Lee Smothers, 80, died Saturday, October 31, 2009, in Louisville, KY, as the result of an automobile accident on Highway 55 near Lone Valley RD in Campbellsville, KY.

Funeral services will be at 4pmET/3pmCT, Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon AV, Campbellsville, KY, by Rev. Bo Sherrell. Burial will be in Old Liberty Cemetery with full military honors by The Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation is after 5pmET/4pmCT at the funeral home.


Pallbearers: Chris Corbin, Travis Corbin, Virgil Corbin, Phillip Felton, Mark Thomas McKinney, Barney Smothers, Mark Smothers, and Todd Smothers. Honorary Pallbearers: Dr. James Angel, Ricky Appleby, James Corbin, Dennis Cundiff, Allen Felton, Kalvin Mann, Brent Propes, and Bill Purdom.

Tommy Lee Smothers (1929-2009)

Tommy Lee Smothers of Campbellsville, KY, son of the late Tom Smothers and Bessie Lee Tharp Smothers, was born in Marion County, KY, August 2, 1929. He died at 1:45pmCT., Saturday, October 31, 2009, in Louisville, KY, the result of an automobile accident on Highway 55 in Campbellsville, KY, at the age of 80 years, 2 months, and 19 days.

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Bradfordsville Baptist Church.

He was a well respected bulldozer operator.

He served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by the following:
  • Six children: Martha Levon Propes and husband, Brent of Danville, KY; Mary Lee Corbin and Charles Thomas Smothers and wife, Ethel of Campbellsville, KY; Mark Douglas Smothers and wife, Carolyn of Buffalo, KY; Emily Fay Cundiff and husband, Dennis of Greensburg, KY; and Ann Michelle Felton and husband, Allen of Hopewell, VA

  • Fourteen grandchildren; great-grandchildren
  • One brother and one sister: Billy Smothers of Campbellsville and Mary Ann Vaughn of Shepherdsville, KY

  • Several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

    He was preceded in death by six siblings: David Smothers, Paul Smothers, Jesse Smothers, James Smothers, Essie Smothers, and Kathleen Smothers.
