A citizen speaks out on school tax: says Adair Co. must face truths "The quality of life we experience tomorrow will most likely be a direct result of what we do or don't do today." BILLY JOE FUDGE By Billy Joe Fudge Citizen of Adair County Concerning about any issue it can be said that enough good can be found to justify supporting it and enough bad can be found to justify opposing it. I believe this statement is applicable and very relevant to the current half cent tax issue facing us here in Adair County. Many well meaning and conscientious citizens find themselves on opposite sides of the fence from neighbors, friends, and even other family members. In these times of high unemployment and uncertainty I can clearly see why many would be opposed to any type tax increase. Additionally, we are all bombarded daily by stories and images of politicians and public figures misusing public funds through bad management, ignorance, and outright fraud. This causes many of us to become jaded toward the entire process. At the same time, there are many sound, substantiated facts that lead many, including me, to believe that the time is right to go forward with the new Casey School, school bus garage, etc. There is no advantage for me to delve into all the pros and cons presently but we must never forget a trio of truisms.
Now it appears that the petition to kill the new tax may be verified. If so, what happens next? Are we going to let a few unelected citizens speak for us all or do we want to put it to a vote whereby we can all have a say on this most important issue? Billy Joe Fudge, Citizen of Adair County This story was posted on 2009-10-28 04:30:29
