Perryville site of observance for Lincoln Heritage Scenic Hwy

First event of day is at 8amCT, this morning, in Boyle Co., KY, where Honorable Harold McKinney, Garlin, Adair Co., KY, native is County Judge Executive

FRANKFORT - A series of press conferences and community observances is planned Friday, October 23, 2009, to celebrate recent designation of the Lincoln Heritage Scenic Highway from Hodgenville through Danville as a National Scenic Byway. The Lincoln Heritage Scenic Highway is a 71-mile stretch of US 31E and US 150 that also passes through New Haven, Bardstown, Springfield and Perryville.



Friday events get underway in Perryville, KY:
  • 9amET/8amCT: in Perryville, inside City Hall, 216 S Buell ST, Perryville, KY, along Historic Merchant's Row. Next, the celebration will move to:

  • 10:30amET/9:30amCT: Springfield, downtown in the historic Washington County Courthouse

  • 1pmET/12 noon CT: Bardstown, in the lobby of the historic Nelson County Courthouse

  • 2:30pmET/1:30amCT: Hodgenville, in the Lincoln MuseumSpeakers will include Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Marcheta Sparrow, Deputy Secretary Lindy Casebier, Kentucky Heritage Council Executive Director Mark Dennen, local mayors and judge executives and special community guests.
Designation of this highway was announced October 16, 2009, by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, which administer the program. Nomination of the region was a two-year undertaking sponsored by LaRue county government with the assistance of Preservation Kentucky, Inc., and the Rural Heritage Development Initiative.
