CU symposium will deal with Justification by Faith

Speaker for inaugural Justification Symposium will be Campbellsville University professor Dr. Jarvis Williams, author of two forthcoming books on Paul's theology.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Campbellsville University is holding the inaugural Justification Symposium, with the first address by Dr. Jarvis Williams, Monday, October 26, 2009 from 4pm-5pmET/3pm-4pmCT, in room 15 of the Administration Building, 104 University Drive, Campbellsville, KY. The event is free and open to the public.



The CU School of Theology is hosting the event which will provide an opportunity for students and faculty to learn about current cutting-edge biblical and theological issues in the areas of biblical and theological scholarship, and these issues will relate to some aspect of the Protestant Reformation, Dr. Williams said.

This year's theme is "Justification by Faith in Paul's Theology." Williams, assistant professor of New Testament and Greek, will speak on "Justification by Faith in Paul Yet Again: Does N.T. Wright Have the Right Perspective?"

Williams has served as a CU professor since January 2008.

He is the author of the forthcoming books Maccabean Martyr Traditions in Paul's Theology of Atonement: Did Martyr Theology Shape Paul's Conception of Jesus' Death (Eugene, Oregon: Wipf and Stock, Forthcoming 2009) and One New Man: The Cross and Racial Reconciliation in Paul's Theology (Nashville: Broadman & Holman, Forthcoming 2011).

Williams has also published articles in the Princeton Theological Review and the Campbellsville Review. His research focuses exclusively on Pauline Soteriology and Pauline Atonement Theology, Romans, and the Soteriology and Atonement Theology in Second Temple Judaism.
