LWC Cycling Fifth Overall at National Championships By Dan White, Asst. Lindsey Wilson College Sports Information Director TRUCKEE, CA - The Lindsey Wilson College cycling team took fifth place at the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships at the Northstar at Tahoe Resort on October16-18, 2009. The Blue Raiders earned 409 points in their final meet of the season, while Fort Lewis (CO) College won the team title with 671 points. The University of Colorado and Lees-McRae (NC) College finished second and third with 589 and 555 points, respectively. Freshman Scott Hoffner opened the championship with a 21st-place finish in the men's division I cross-country race. Other Blue Raiders in the field were newcomer Adam LaRochelle in 30th place and junior Christopher Bogedin finishing 42nd. Sophomore Ashley James earned a spot in the top 20 of the women's division I cross-country field, finishing in 16th place. Senior Sarah Lukas finished 26th, while freshman Brooke Crum crossed the line in 40th place. Bogedin paced the Blue Raiders in the short-track race in 26th place, followed closely by Hoffner in 28th place. James impressed in the women's field of 44 with a 13th-place finish. Lukas came in 24th in the women's short track. Lindsey Wilson was dominant in the men's 4X with three top-10 finishes, including two in the top five. Logan Collins finished as the runner-up, while sophomore Clayton Omer crossed in fourth place. Newcomer Steven Weimar entered the top 10 in eighth place. The Blue Raider women matched the men in their 4X with three finishers in the top 10 as well. Freshman Madison Pitts and sophomore Allie Dragoo took third and fourth place, respectively. Newcomer Jessica Baker rounded out the group in seventh place. Junior Weston Pope led Lindsey Wilson in the men's downhill with a 21st-place finish, followed by sophomore Brandon Hopkins in 38th place. Lukas paced the Blue Raiders in the women's downhill, crossing the line in 20th place. Baker and Pitts finished 24th and 25th, respectively.
