One teen dies; driver airlifted from Eli, Russell Co., KY crash scene Tragedy occurs on KY 76 in Russell County. Columbia, KY, KSP Post 15 Officer John Barnett is investigating By TFC Billy Gregory, Public Affairs Officer Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY RUSSELL CO., KY - A collision occurred this morning, Monday, October 12, 2009 at 10:45amCT, .5 mile North of Eli on KY 76. Brently R Frost, age 17, of Russell Springs, KY was operating a 2003 Ford Focus when he lost control in a curve, ran off roadway and struck a tree. He was flown from the scene to U.K Medical Center in Lexington, KY. A passenger, Travis R Popplewell, age 17 of Russell Springs was pronounced dead at the scene by the Russell County Coroner. Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt. The collision is being investigated by TPR John Barnett.
