Ozark: Rosa Bea Bryant corresponded to Adair County News

About: Carol Reeves Shaul: The Store and Post Office at Ozark, KY

By E.H. Lepiarczyk II

I really appreciate Mrs. Shaul's narrative regarding the Ozark community. The farm of my godfather, Mr. Kazimierz Rusek, is in the Ozark community.

I have always been interested in the history of Ozark.

Mrs. Shaul's father, the late Mr. Buford Reeves, was an especially fine gentleman. When I first met Mr. Reeves, he told me many nice and interesting stories about my grandfather, Daniel Marion Grider (1888-1949).

He related to me my grandfather's outstanding sportsmanship in playing baseball.

My aunt, Nona Marie Grider Cook (1924-1996), told me that "Papa Daniel's" baseball team was called the "Swamp Angels." I suppose this team had many players from the Ozark community. My grandfather grew up in the White Oak community, near Ozark. I would like to see photographs of my grandfather in his Swamp Angels days!

The Ozark community was inhabited for generations by the family of my uncle's wife, the Reynolds family. The Reynolds family is one of the oldest families of the Ozark community. My cousin, Janet Gail Cabbell, is also a member of the Reynolds family.

I'm sure the history of the Ozark community is very rich. I look forward to learning more information about the history of this community. Shiloh Christian Church is one of Ozark's most salient landmarks today.

The late Rosa Bea White Bryant was always very proud of the Ozark community. For years she devotedly wrote a newsletter for the Adair County News, titled by the community's name, Ozark!
