Youngs Mill: Samuel Young was the first Young in Adair Co., KY

Path/road crossed Banty Reeves farm at Ozark, KY, for short-cut, fording Russell Creek, to get to Youngs Mill
About: Young Mill story with two old photographs added

By Carol Reeves Shaul

I saw the article on the Young Mill.

I will wait for Wanda to send in her information - as she is the one that got me "onto it"!

Alvin Young was indeed the "miller" and he was the son of John Young, who was the son of George who was the son of Samuel Young, the first Young to come to Adair County.

Alvin Young was our (Reeves kids) Great-Grandfather Zachary Young's nephew.

Our Dad was Buford "Banty" Reeves, and many times, I have heard our Dad tell of taking corn to grind at the Young Mill.

In fact, there was a road/path that ran right beside our house, down through the woods, and to the mill on Russell Creek.

People used to cut through that way all the time. Actually, we still drive through the creek to get to Glens Fork from Hwy. 80.

It would be about 8 miles or more to go to Columbia and out - probably less than 3 miles to drive across the creek. If we don't hear from Wanda, I can send in more of the story on the Young Mill, and how it came to exist.
Thanks, Carol Reeves Shaul. We've had a lot of calls and emails on the story. We hope that we receive more information on the Young Mill to post, including any more you might write. -EW
