Westlake Health Fair big success, despite the rain Food tent sales may have set record. Scott Smith wins big screen TV; Susan Peck wins crystal set See earlier story, Saturday, September 26, Big 2009 Westlake Health Fair photo album By Ed Waggener Saturday, September 26, 2009 was a drizzly, dreary day, but it didn't stop the Westlake Health Fair from being a big success. Firm numbers aren't in yet, but Director of Marketing Pauline Davenport thinks that the overall statistics will be good. "We may not have had as many staying as long as they would have on a pretty day," she said. "But we've been up every year since it started and I'm hoping we will be this year, too." That assessment was confirmed by Westlake Hospital Auxiliary President Margaret Sparks, who was elated with the sale at the WH Auxiliary Food Tent. "We sold out a little early," she said. "People came in, bought, and left," she said. "We like it when they can stay and talk, but we did really well." Sue Stivers ran the crystal raffle for the gift shop. The drawing grossed over $400, she said. The prize was won by Susan Peck. Only the entrants in the 32" Sanyo HD flat-screen Tv drawing, a free raffle, seemed down, according to Charles Marshall, who managed the give-away. People were moving on to their cars after the quicker visits in the downpour and fewer were stopping to get a free chance on the Tv. Scott Smith of Columbia, KY, was the winner of the top prize, given by Westlake Hospital. Davenport said that final figures on attendance and participants won't be available until a few days later, but that, overall, the fair managers are very pleased with the fair. "It's a big tradition," she said. "People plan on coming back year after year." This year was no different. This story was posted on 2009-09-27 08:17:50
