Driver flown to UL following pickup crash NW of Columbia, KY

Unbelted driver ejected from vehicle.Overcorrection a factor in wreck on Knifley RD, KSP says.

An injury collision occurred Friday evening, September 25, 2009, at 5:06pmCT, 3.5 miles northeast of Columbia, KY on KY551, when a 2007 Chevy pickup, being operated by Richard O'Neal Smith, age 22, of Columbia, KY, was traveling North on KY551, dropped off the right shoulder of the roadway, the operator overcorrected and the vehicle ran off the left hand side of the roadway, then struck two trees.



Smith, who was not belted, was ejected from the vehicle. Smith was transferred from the scene by Adair County EMS to Westlake Regional Hospital, Columbia, KY, and was transferred by Air Ambulance to the University of Louisville hospital due to his injuries.The collision is being investigated by KSP Trooper Clint Walker, who was assisted at the scene by Adair County EMS and Adair County Deputy Sheriff Charles Greer.
