Public gets a chance to buy used cars, trucks and SUVs Auction will starting at 10amET/9amCT Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the State Service Garage, 513 Barrett St. in Frankfort, KY From Gov. Beshear's Office of Communications FRANKFORT, Ky. -- As Kentucky continues to find innovative ways to find efficiencies and cut costs during difficult economic times, Gov. Steve Beshear pointed to two state agencies that are doing their part to help the Commonwealth save money and be more energy efficient on the roadways. The Division of Fleet Management and the Division of Surplus Properties, both agencies of the Finance and Administration Cabinet, will auction approximately 200 used state vehicles tomorrow to the general public. The sale will allow the public to purchase used trucks, cars and SUVs at competitive prices. Net proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase more energy efficient models as replacement vehicles. "It is clear that the financial road ahead remains rough for the state," Gov. Beshear said. "But with more agency partnerships like this one between Fleet Management and Surplus Properties, we can generate much-needed revenue for the state while also reducing our negative impact on the environment." Tomorrow's auction is one of several that will be occurring in the coming months as the Beshear Administration works to be as efficient with taxpayer dollars as possible while also looking for innovative ways to improve the environment. "Each cabinet has been asked to find ways to save money and cut spending," said Finance and Administration Cabinet Sec. Jonathan Miller. "Through Gov. Beshear's leadership we are doing our part by selling items we no longer need and then replacing them with more environmentally friendly items, saving money in the long run." The last auction conducted by the Divisions of Fleet Management and Surplus Properties was held in April 2008 where 205 vehicles were sold, bringing in approximately $496,000. The auction will be held on Tuesday, September 22 at the State Service Garage, 513 Barrett St. in Frankfort and will begin at 10:00amET For more information on the auction as well as other surplus events go to http://finance.ky.gov/internal/surplus/.
