Soccer: 2nd half fury gives LWC win over Graceland in KELME

Exciting evening at Reuling Stadium as Trinity Christian (IL) College (2-3-2) upset 7th ranked Martin Methodist

By Dan White, Ass't LWC Sports Information Director

COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson College sophomore Ida Gregersen ended a near hour-long scoring draught with a goal in the 57th minute, setting off a flurry of Blue Raider scoring in a 3-0 win against 23rd ranked Graceland (Iowa) University Saturday in the KELME Classic at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

The fourth ranked Blue Raiders received both follow up goals to Gregersen's blast by senior defender Yolanda Hamilton. The senior recorded her third and fourth goals of the season in the 58th and 79th minute.

Lindsey Wilson (5-2-1) wasn't without opportunities to score in the first period, amassing six first-half shots compared to just one for Graceland (4-1-2).

Hamilton broke free in the 7th minute on the left side of the field for a shot inside the box that took an unfortunate angle directly into the hands of Graceland keeper Leslie Danner. The rest of the Blue Raider's first-half attacks were deep attempts that never threatened the Yellowjacket goal.

At intermission, Danner had already collected five saves, while Lindsey Wilson senior keeper Carrie Revlett ended the scoreless half with just one.

Gregersen's tie-breaking goal was the result of a broken up cross from junior forward Katy Gilmour. Gregersen, just three feet outside the goal, was quick to collect the loose ball and place it into the back of the net.

In the very next minute, Hamilton got on the board with her first goal of the night.

Hamilton received a perfectly placed cross from Gilmour on the left side of the box for a blast that she angled past the keeper to push Lindsey Wilson ahead 2-0.

The seniors follow up score may have been the most impressive of the night. In an unexpected turn of events, Hamilton changed a dribbling display along the perimeter of the box into a sweeping goal past a host of defenders for the 3-0 lead.Lindsey Wilson improved to 2-0-2 all-time against Graceland and 12-1-1 all-time in the KELME Classic.

Revlett earned her fourth shutout of the season with a two-save performance. Danner finished the game with six saves and three goals against.

In the first game of the night, Trinity Christian (IL) College (2-3-2) upset seventh ranked Martin Methodist (TN) College (3-2-1) 2-0 with a pair of second-half goals.

Lindsey Wilson Men's Soccer returns to action at 1pmCT on Thursday, September 23 against King (TN) College, 1350 King College RD, Bristol, TN
