Adair Co. Medication Disposal Program is Friday, Sept. 18, 2009 By Rick Wilson There will be a Medication Disposal Program on Friday, September 18, 2008, between 1:00 and 5:00pmCT on Jamestown Street between the new Chamber of Commerce Gazebo and the Jamestown Street Bank of Columbia branch. The program is sponsored by the following Adair County agencies:
The safe and legal way to dispose of unused or expired medicationsDisposting of medications by throwing in the trash or flushing is not the recommended practice because studies have found that drugs can kill helpful bacteria in septic systems and waterways. Pills, capsules and liquids and must be in the original container to be accepted.Chemotherapy medications, patches, inhalers or suppositories will not be accepted. Questions may be directed to the Adair County Judge's Office at (270) 384-4703 or Adair County Coroners Office at (270) 378-1490. To promote the safe disposal of medications, area pharmacies have donated door prizes to be given away at the conclusion of the medication disposal program.
