LWC to break ground on new $7M residence hall today Total number of students living in residence halls is about 872 this year. School had over 20% increase in students living on campus in 2009 over 2008 By Duane Bonifer, LWC Director of Public Relations COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson will break ground on a new residence hall at 11amCT on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. The ground-breaking ceremony will take place on the sidewalk in front of Richardson Hall, which is located at 279 Spickard DR, Columbia, KY This is the first residence hall Lindsey Wilson has built since Richardson Hall opened in August 2001. When it is opened for the 2010-11 school year, the four-story building will house 186 beds and include 42,000 square feet, making it the college's largest residence hall. Richardson Hall is 34,000 square feet with 156 beds. Lindsey Wilson's new residence hall - which will cost about $7 million to build - will be about the size of the Jim & Helen Lee Fugitte Science Center. Although it will be a couple weeks before Lindsey Wilson officials will not know final enrollment numbers for the 2009-10 school year, the college already has enrolled a record number of resident students. About 150 more students are living in residence halls this school year. A total of 721 students lived in residence halls in 2008-09; the previous record number of resident students was 741. To accommodate more than 870 resident students this school year, Lindsey Wilson's Academic Success Center was moved from Weldon Hall to the Everett Building. The college also converted 10 buildings that had once been homes into residence halls to also create more space for the influx of resident students. This story was posted on 2009-09-02 03:41:38
