Shirlene Ingram, Columbia, KY, LCADD Grandparent of the Year Click on headline for story + photo By Ellen Zornes Shirlene Ingram was honored earlier this year as the Grandparent of the Year for the Lake Cumberland Area Development District (LCADD). Ms. Ingram is a very vital member of the Adair County Grand Group, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group. The Grand Group operates in part through the Kentucky Caregiver Support Program that is part of Kentucky's Division on Aging and meets monthly at different locations. The Grandparent of the Year Award was started in 2007 at the State Level by Commissioner Anderson who was raised by her Grandmother, Rose. To honor her grandmother Commissioner Anderson began the Rose Award to be given annually to a deserving grandparent raising grandchildren. Each Area Development District nominates a grandparent from their area. Ms. Ingram was the recipient for the Lake Cumberland Area and was presented the award by LCADD Director, Donna Diaz, at their annual meeting. If you are a grandparent (or other non-parent family member) and are the primary caregiver for your grandchild, we invite you to attend the Grand Group meetings.
