Wants to know more about Julia Miller Horton

Information needed for re-dedication ceremony, at 1:00pmCT, Thursday, September 17, 2009

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Does anyone out there know anything about Julia Miller Horton? Why did her husband have a rose garden put in for her? Did she have any children? Is there any family living in this area? Where was she born? When did she die and from what? How old was she when she died? These are questions I have been asking since we have been restoring the rose garden that was put in to honor her at the Trabue house by her husband. No one working on the garden seems to know anything. If there is someone that knows anything about this rose garden lady we,would like to know before September 17, 2009, when, at 1:00pmCT, we re-dedicate the rose garden.

Thanks.

s/Maury E. Lewis

Thanks for the question. Briefly, Mrs. Horton was one of the succession of very gracious and great women who have been First Ladies at Lindsey Wilson College - and that's a story in and of itself. She was a member of one of Adair County's most distinguished families, which continues to make outstanding contributions to Adair County, in so many ways, to this day. She was the wife of President John Burns Horton. For the greater, more complete information the Adair County Garden Club will want, we'll await input from knowledgeable historians. -EW
