Thinks going for Lowe's Garden Grant a great idea

About: Lowe's offers grants to schools to establish gardens

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

The garden at the school is a great idea. If parents would get behind that as well as they get behind athletics and the band (which is certainly a good thing to do--I'm all for parental support of athletics and the band) we could have a great garden and students could be involved in both growing the healthy food and eating it. FFA and 4-H could also be involved.

I don't have family enrolled in the school system, but I'd be glad to put in a day or half-day a month during the summer to help. It's getting so that even in rural areas like Adair County young people don't have any experience or appreciation of where their veggies come from and how rewarding it can be to raise them yourself. We should be able to set up a great system for $20,000. Students could sell the surplus at the farmer's market to raise seed and maintence money for on-going operation.s/George Kolbenschlag
