The Somerset Community College Physical Therapist Assistant Program recently admitted students into the twentieth class in the program's history. Twenty students were selected from among this year's applicant pool and will tentatively graduate in May, 2011.

"I am so excited to be a part of this program," said Veronica Bell of Monticello, one of the newly admitted students. "I am excited to begin my career and begin helping others."

The program's first class was admitted in 1986 and graduated ten students in 1987. Since then, more than 250 students have graduated from the program, with most still working in the field of physical therapy. Thirty-seven students are currently enrolled in the program.

"It was really a struggle to complete the program, but I am so happy that I did it," stated Beverly Pilcher of Nancy, one of the 1987 graduates. "I am still working as a PTA and the program opened a lot of doors to me... it broadened my horizons. I have met thousands of people throughout my career and it has been a joy to see the good results... seeing people achieve their goals. I would recommend that anyone who enjoys working with people and helping others to look into the program."

The SCC PTA Program has produced many local, state and national award winners and is planning a Homecoming event for the twenty classes in the summer of 2010. Past faculty, staff and graduates of the program should contact the Program Director at ron.meade@kctcs.edu for more information.Somerset Community College is a comprehensive two-year institution of higher education. SCC has campuses in Somerset and London, and centers in Clinton, McCreary, Casey, and Russell Counties.
