Laura Myrtle Grider, 87, Adair Co., KY

Mrs. Grider was the head of a large, respected family. She was the widow of Woodrow Grider, with whom she managed the Burley Belt Farm Center in Russell Springs, KY.

Laura Myrtle Grider, 87, a resident of Summit Manor Health & Rehab, Columbia, KY, passed away Friday, August 14, 2009, at 4:15pmCT at Summit Manor.

The funeral service for Laura Myrtle Grider will be Sunday, August 16, 2009, at 2:30pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. David Coffey and Bro. Ralph Foster officiating. Interment will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Russell County, KY. Visitation will be after 4:00mCT, Saturday August 15, at the funeral home.



Laura Myrtle Grider (October 18, 1921 - August 14, 2009)

Laura Myrtle Grider was born October 18, 1921, the daughter of the late Ben Harrison and Pearlie Mae Grider Conover. Laura Myrtle Grider, 87, a resident of Summit Manor Health & Rehab, Columbia, KY, passed away Friday, August 14, 2009, at 4:15pmCT at Summit Manor, making the time of her life here 87 years, 9 months and 27 days.

She was the widow of Woodrow Grider, who preceded her in death on February 22, 1983.

She is survived by the following:
  • One daughter: Janet Sharpe and her husband David, Columbia, KY

  • One sister; Sarah Evenly Carter, Columbia, KY

  • Five grandchildren: Becky Chapman and her husband Joe; Kim Wilson, Susan Pollard and her husband Troy, Woody Sharpe and his wife Tracy, and Chrissie Posey and her husband Brad

  • Eleven grandchildren: Christopher Sharp and his wife Becky, Ashleigh Popplewell and her husband Danion, Brittany Klingberg and her husband Kurt, Jordan Pollard, Emma Pollard, Tate Sharpe, Anna Beth Sharpe, Josephine Posey, Lily Posey, Danielle Chapman, and Deana Chapman

  • One great great grandchild: Hillary Klingberg

  • Special friends and caregivers: Mildred Stapp, Lois Wilson and Joyce Janes

  • And several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by one sister, Maudie Powe and one great grandson, Hayden Popplewell.

Mrs. Grider and her husband managed the Burley Belt Farm Center in Russell Springs, KY.

In lieu of flowers, expression of sympathy may take the form of a donation to the American Cancer Society and may be made at the funeral home.

Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
