Storm Tues., Aug. 4, 2009: Damage mostly in 2 Columbia areas

Straight line winds which came through Adair County at around 3:00pm today, Tuesday, August 4, 2009, blew down trees, with first reports of damage coming in from a tight area of Columbia, plus one report from the Cane Valley Mill Road area.

A large tree fell across the beautiful old home of Dr. Ronald P. and Gail Rogers at 300 Jamestown ST. Other calls came from Myrtle Street and Maple Street on the Greater Lindsey Hill area, and from Heskamp Stret, and Tim Street on the Greater Jamestown Hill area.

Wally Burress first reported a visual sighting of the winds after driving in East 80 and seeing the winds from the Green Hills Road area. When he called, he had seen the big tree down at Dr. Rogers' home.

Straight-Line Winds Down Trees on Jamestown Street

A straight line line at a little after 3:00pm Tuesday, August 4, 2009, blew over this huge tree in the front yard of Dr. Ronald Rogers. The full extent of the damage wasn't known, but there appeared to be some roof damage to the the beautiful home at the top of Jamestown Hiil. Dr. Rogers was at his chiropractic clinic when the storm passed over, but had been notified and was at the scene by 3:30pmCT.

This line was actively sparking at 4:30pmCT, after the Tuesday, August, 4 2009, storm toppled this tree in the 300 block of Myrtle ST..This view looks down Fairground Street.

Storm August 3, 2009 downs several trees at LWC; new maintenance building hit

Surveying wind damage at Lindsey Wilson College: The straight-line winds that swept through Adair County Tuesday afternoon, August 3, 2009, damaged several trees on Lindsey Wilson Colleges A.P. White Campus. On Wednesday morning, Freshman Advisors Jennifer Furkin, left, and Laura Burwash surveyed the damage to a maple tree on the lawn between the John B. Begley Chapel and the L.R. McDonald Administration Building. Later in the day, the colleges physical plant employees trimmed the broken parts of the tree. Trees were also don on the Soccer Field, at the new, already occupied physical plant building, at the Keys property on Fairgrounds Street, and at Cranmer Dining Center. Only one building was damaged, the new maintenance plant. Maintenance specialists who quickly cleaned up the storms debris were Jerry Coffey, David Begley, Doug Bryant, Jackie Chapman, John Bush, Taft Neal, Taft Brock. and Danny Brockman.
