My friend George-Etta Knight Sullivan and I walk on Bridgeport, Keltner Rd. (Hwy. 544) sometimes in the late afternoon.

We take the camera with us to capture anything we might find interesting and she tells me history of the area.

The accompanying picture is of the East Fork School just past her house. George-Etta's grandmother, Mary Pedigo Hill, taught there and her mother, Janice Knight, as a young woman taught there also.

She said that was around 1950 when her mother was teacher for one year, she can not remember the dates her grandmother was teacher.

But she said her grandmother was young and just out of school herself.

She came from Edmonton on horse back and boarded with a family. I think we need to preserve the history of our communities for our children and grandchildren.

2009-08-03 - East Fork or Bridgeport area of Metcalfe County, KY - Photo by Johnnietta Jessie.
A walk with her friend George-Etta Knight Sullivan, who related some of the history of the old East Fork School, made Johnnietta Jessie think about the need to preserve history and to write down memories before they are gone.
