The first four innings of the Central Regional Softball tournament was a calm before the storm as the ABC Lightning managed only four hits and no runs. Things were quiet as fans wondered where the lightning bats had been hidden.

The Iowa team scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning on two ABC errors and a two rbi single. That would be the total through four innings as good pitching by Meredith Corbin and Taylor Davidson was backed up by some outstanding fielding by the team.

After four scoreless innings and the game slipping away a glimmer of hope arose as Brooke Boils led off the fifth with a walk. Channley Otterson singled and after one out Mackenzie Martin singled to drive in Boils and Otterson. After another out by Kaylin Hughes, Michelle Wray singled in Martin and then scored on a double by Casey Conner. ABC now had a 4-2 lead.

Iowa went down in order in the bottom of the fifth.

A full blown lightning storm hit in the top of the sixth as the Kentucky team scored 10 runs as they sent 15 batters to the plate. Six ABC hits and 4 Iowa errors lead to the 10 run outburst. Kayla Walls walked, Boils reached on an error and Otterson singled them home. Haily McBeath reached on an error and Martin singled to load the bases. Kaylin Hughes sent a towering ball to deep centerfield resulting in a sacrifice fly and an rbi.

Wray reached base on another Iowa error, Conner doubled sending home Wray. Taylor Davidson walked and Walls hit a long fly ball that was dropped by the outfielder. Following this Boils singled, Otterson doubled, and Mcbeath doubled to account for the rest of the 10 run inning.

Iowa added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 14-4 ending the game on the 10 run rule.

Mackenzie Martin led the team with 4 hits. Channley Otterson had three and Boils, Conner, and McBeath all had two each. Conner and Otterson lead the team with 6 rbis between them. Every player on the team either scored or had an rbi.
