Master Gardener hopefuls get second chance Informational meeting is Thursday, July 23, 2009, in Somerset By Barbara Armitage You have a second chance to learn more about the Master Gardener ProgramMaster Gardeners are a nationwide group of trained volunteers who work with the staff at their local Extension Service to provide consumers with reliable, up-to-date research based information about gardens and landscapes. To become a Master Gardner you must complete a 13 week training course through Extension Services, in core subjects, taught by a horticulture agent and other specialists. Fifty hours of volunteer time, in 1 year, required In return for this training you must complete 50 hours of volunteer time within one year of course completion. After the first year volunteers are required to contribute 20 volunteer hours per year plus 5 hours of Continuing Education. For more information contact Beth Wilson, Pulaski County Horticulturist Beth.Wilson@uky.edu There is an informational meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 1:00pmET at the Pulaski County Extension office, Somerset, KY, for those interested in the Master Gardner Program. Applications must be in no later than August 14, 2009, for classes to begin in September. Classes will be held at the Pulaski County Extension Office, 28 Parkway DR, Somerset, KY. Students attending classes can carpool from Columbia to Somerset.
