AC Genealogical Society is group interested in preservation

Response to Is there any Adair Co organization preserving historic schools

By Vonnie Kolbenschlag

Yes, there is a group that will welcome you and any material you may have. It is the Adair County Genealogical Society. It meets the first Monday of each month at 6:00 at the Adair County Public Library.

An ACGS Quarterly is published with history, photos, and genealogy records by Lila Ford. People interested in history and heritage may submit articles and share information. Your input would be appreciated.

The courthouse group ED referred to is using by-laws from a no longer functioning Adair Heritage Association. These by-laws were written in 1974 by Mrs. Lynn Jeffries and Dr. John Horton assisted by Walter E. Langsam, architectural historian with the Kentucky Heritage Commission. The AHA was formed to save the Trabue/Russell House which was slated for destruction by a developer.

The AHA by-laws are still relevant for perserving the courthouse because the purpose was not for profit but to locate and designate and where possible preserve places and properties, both real and personal that have been and are an important part of the history and life of Adair County, Kentucky.' That 1974 group was able to get the court house placed on the National Register.

The public library also has files that keep records, photos, and historical information.
