Comment: Downtown's problems are no mystery

Presented with the the CM quote of the week:
'It is inhumane not to provide trees in parking lots,' -VONNIE KOLBENSCHLAG

By Billy Joe Fudge

There is no great mystery as to the problems with no new businesses locating Downtown, few customers calling on existing businesses located Downtown, businesses closing Downtown, and buildings for the most part setting idle and becoming less desirable on a continuing basis.

All one needs to do is plan an excursion Downtown to discover the impediments to economic development such as:
  • Oppressive heat in Summer
  • No shade
  • No green space
  • No breeze
  • No shelter from the rain and other inclement weather conditions
  • Excessive traffic
  • Uncontrolled traffic flow around Courthouse
  • Traffic not stopping for pedestrians
  • Traffic not stopping at crosswalks
  • Vehicles blocking crosswalks
  • Excessive speed limit immediately approaching Downtown
  • Excessive speed limit around the Courthouse
  • Excessive noise
I know everyone is tired of my two cents worth, but that was another penny's worth to ponder.
